The Galleria outlet centre in Hatfield has successfully transitioned to 100% renewable energy sources. This means that all the operational power for the entire centre is now coming from sustainable sources such as wind and solar.
This achievement is just the start of a planned journey to make the centre a more eco-friendly destination which is central to the strategy of The Galleria’s new owner.
“We are thrilled to have made this change,” announced centre director Tim Stirling. “As custodians of a building like The Galleria we have a responsibility to ensure the running of the building is as sustainable as possible.”
The centre has also announced that this is just the first step on a longer journey which will see The Galleria challenging many more aspects of the way the centre is operated.
Stirling added: “We’re looking into everything from harvesting rainwater, to how we recycle packaging and waste products, to introducing sustainable planting inside the building and eco initiatives such as bees producing honey on the roof. This is all in addition to the many sustainability measures that our retail partner brands are doing themselves.”
