Landsec celebrates scheme’s positive impact on Oxford
One year on from opening, Westgate Oxford has made a positive impact on the local economy according to developer Landsec.
The mall has welcomed 19 million visitors since its launch, contributed to an 8.9% rise in footfall for Oxford year-on-year.
It has created over 2,000 permanent full-time jobs and generated over £29m in wages.
The shopping centre diverts 100% of its waste from landfill and has saved over 18 tonnes of CO2 to date.
Scott Parsons, managing director of Landsec’s retail portfolio, said: “The centre has brought vast social, economic and environmental benefits to the city and we are proud to celebrate these achievements as we showcase a best-in-class retail and leisure mix. On Westgate’s first birthday, it’s key that we take time to appreciate what a force for good retail can be.”
