Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has marked the launch of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at its Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City centres with a bespoke mural, painted on the Chestnut Plaza Wall in Westfield Stratford City.
Created by artist, Carleen De Sözer as part of Disney’s ongoing collaboration with Westfield, the 7.4 x 7.5 metre hand-painted mural embodies the movie’s themes of community and empowerment and was designed with authentic movie materials and art expression, using the new Black Panther mask as a motif. In creating the mural, De Sözer was supported by young artists aged 14-16 from Spotlight youth services group in Tower Hamlets.
Earlier this year, Westfield announced a three-year extension to its long-term partnership with Disney UK, to continue to promote its content with the millions of visitors to Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City each year.
Also celebrating the movie release is the flagship Black Pound Day Store in Westfield London. Home of Black-owned homegrown brands in the UK, the store is commemorating Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with a large front-of-store vinyl wrap featuring key members of the cast.
NHS Give Blood has teamed up with Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to launch the ‘NOT FAMILY. BUT BLOOD’ campaign to encourage more people of Black heritage to become blood donors. More Black donors are urgently needed to meet increasing demand to help treat blood conditions such as sickle cell. The campaign will be shown on marketing totems across both centres showcasing the co-branded digital media with a call to action for consumers.
Grace Charge, head of brand experience, Europe, Westfield Rise said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the much-awaited launch of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever via various activities across our two London centres. Our continued collaboration with Disney UK aims to deliver new, world-class content and experiences to consumers visiting our Westfield centres – the leading entertainment destinations for the communities they serve.”
