The Iceland group is to open its Food Warehouse big box format at the St James retail and leisure development in Dover.
Iceland has signed a new 10-year lease on Unit 3Ac, a 10,000-sq ft store in a retail block that is anchored by an M&S Foodhall and Next. The annual agreed rent is £200,000.
Since launching its new ‘big box’ format in 2014, The Food Warehouse has grown to over 50 stores. The new concept is bigger than normal Iceland stores and offers a wider product range, blending a cash-and- carry format with more ‘foodie’ options.
The £53m St James scheme is funded by Legal & General and is being developed by Bond City. Providing 156,915 sq ft of new retail and leisure space, next to the A20, it includes a six-screen Cineworld, 108-bed Travelodge, two dozen shops and restaurants and 445 parking spaces.
It is scheduled to open in February 2018 and is now 87 per cent pre-let.
Tim Hance of HRH Retail, joint letting agent with JLL, said: “This is an important addition to St James and Dover town centre, bringing a fresh new concept store to the mix and significantly extending the range of food shopping at the scheme.”
