Springboard charts further decline in footfall
The footfall results for last week will largely be a response to the majority of school half term holiday’s taking place the previous week but with some local authorities taking off last week instead. This is shown in the drop of -5.0 per cent from the previous week, only half the increase of +10.9 per cent seen against the week before, and comparative with the -4.6 per cent seen in week 8 in 2017.
The decrease of just -1.2 per cent overall, is on par with the drop of -1.0 per cent in 2017, however, the variances between the relative performance of each location type are much larger. High streets fared the greatest decline last week of -2.3 per cent against last year, a worsening on the drop of -1.2 per cent of 2017 and shopping centre footfall dipped by -1.2 per cent, following a result of -0.6 per cent in 2017. Thus, leaving retail parks performance to bring up the overall result through an uplift of +1.5 per cent against last year, following on from an uncharacteristic drop of -0.8 per cent in 2017.
Only Scotland and the Midlands (both East and West) avoided the overall annual decline, with each experiencing growth in 2 location types to subvert the trend across the remainder of the country.
