Retail, travel and leisure is the strongest performing segment in the UK’s eating-out market, which is expected to grow to £95.2bn by the end of the year, according to Lumina Intelligence. This total is up 4% on pre-pandemic levels. However, the retail, travel and leisure segment is expected to see 9% growth, led by coffee shops and cafes as well as sandwich shops and bakeries. Lumina says this is due to their strong physical expansion, their tech-led, digital services and the fact that they tend to sell low-price items with a food-to-go skew.
Meanwhile, Lumina reports that the Top 10 eating-out brands are set to be worth £15.2bn this year with McDonald’s the biggest in the marketplace. McDonald’s as well as KFC, Greggs and Domino’s are expected to see turnover recovery on 2019 figures of up to 20%.
