Cushman & Wakefield Outlook 2020 report uncovers the issues facing investors and occupiers
Cushman & Wakefield’s has unveiled its new EMEA insight report, The Outlook 2020 report, which explores the major themes the commercial real estate industry needs front of mind next year.
The report contains 11 chapters examining the major challenges and opportunities confronting the commercial real estate industry across the region.
Key themes in the report include: climate risk and real estate impacts; the influence of social value on the spaces we use; what rising construction costs will mean; and how both changing demographics and technology will influence the role of property.
In the chapter on retail outlook, the report focuses on new mindsets for 2020, with a focus on: rethinking the retail experience by viewing shopping as entertainment and combining physical and digital; emerging food business models such as dark kitchens; and social and environmental issues that will impact the way people shop.
Colin Wilson, chief executive officer, EMEA, at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Real estate isn’t immune to external factors, but it is the driver of its own destiny in many ways. It is as important to understand what demographics mean for the future of real estate and how a changing society fundamentally challenges the status quo as it is to understand absorption or yields.”
