Plans for an inflatable ‘Aqua Park’ on a lake by Bluewater have been withdrawn after receiving public criticism, according to a report from Kent Online.
The plans, which would have seen a temporary inflatable obstacle course on Lake Five at Bluewater Shopping Centre, were withdrawn after an online petition claiming the inflatable park would damage the ‘9 species of bat, 40 species of creepy crawlies, countless fish and nesting herons, geese, ducks and swans’ secured over 8,000 signatures.
Katie Lynch, who started the petition said: “We have saved Bluewater Nature Trail!
“Yesterday the application to turn the trail into an aqua park was withdrawn by the developers. I cannot thank each of you enough for your support and do not fear I will be on the look out for any future applications!”
Newton’s Cllr Laura Edie, who recently left Labour and joined the Green Party, said: “We are absolutely over the moon with the news that the application to build a water park in the Bluewater nature trail has been withdrawn.
“Since starting this campaign just over a week ago, we have been overwhelmed by the out pouring of support from the local community for this treasured wildlife park.”
