Decathlon Stockport has a new 15-bay ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging hub, installed by national charging network Be.EV.
It’s the largest ultra-rapid charging hub in Stockport, and is located just minutes from the M60, benefiting local residents, Decathlon shoppers and commuters passing through.
On Sunday, September 8, Be.EV is celebrating the launch of the hub by offering drivers who use their Be.EV app half-price charging* between 12pm and 2pm, and free Padel taster sessions at the nearby Soul Padel courts.
Drivers will also be able to try out the latest electric bikes courtesy of Decathlon, and will receive a £5 voucher to use in store when they charge their car at the event.
Stockport Porsche is also bringing a Porsche Taycan to the event, with drivers able to experience the vehicle and book test drives.
Octopus Electric Vehicles will also be at the event, with drivers able to learn about Vehicle to Load technology, and how to use their EV to power appliances at home and on camping trips.
The ultra-rapid chargers can add up to 165 miles of range in a short 20-minute stop (compared to several hours on a 7kW fast charger) – a solution that matches Decathlon’s customer dwell time of approximately 30 minutes.
Switched on and available for use, Decathlon Stockport has a PAS-compliant charging bay and joins the North’s largest public EV charging network .
The site receives up to 20,000 visitors per week and is located minutes from the M60, with the nearest road seeing an average of over 87,000 vehicles a day.
Stockport has close to 2,700 registered EVs, drivers of which will be able to charge their car while commuting or visiting the retailer.
Asif Ghafoor, CEO and founder of Be.EV, said: ”It’s an honour to bring ultra-rapid, ultra-convenient EV charging to Decathlon shoppers, and provide Stockport with a new, reliable way to charge their vehicle.
“Charging hubs like these are required nationwide if the country is to successfully transition to cleaner transport, and Decathlon is leading the way when it comes to EV charging in the EV space.
“Other retailers should take note. As more and more people choose to drive EVs, they’ll naturally gravitate to destinations where they can conveniently charge their car whilst shopping.”
Liam Fillingham, real estate leader at Decathlon, added: “Decathlon aims to move people through the wonders of sport with a strong focus on sustainability. The Stockport site is a great example of this in action. Not only do we have a fantastic store with many eco designed products and services, now we also have our partners Be.EV and Soul Padel.”
