LCP, part of M Core, has announced three award wins across two LCP-managed shopping centres: M Weavers Wharf and M The Galleries.
M Weavers Wharf Shopping Centre in Kidderminster has been recognised with the Green Apple Environment Award for Waste & Recycling Management Improvement. Working in partnership with national waste and recycling broker Futur First, true zero to landfill has now been achieved at the centre.
A ‘one team, one goal’ approach was used, which involved introducing new processes as well as educating both tenants and operational staff on the importance of correctly handling and segregating waste. Local contractors were also appointed to provide bin containers for packaged food waste, dry mixed recycling, glass recycling and general waste bins. Detailed monthly waste and recycling data now enables Weavers Wharf to track recycling performance and allow tenants to see the positive environmental impact they are having at the centre.
Meanwhile, M The Galleries Shopping Centre in Washington, has been awarded an International Green Apple Environmental Award for its mall and service corridor lighting projects, which serves part of the centre’s ongoing commitment to reducing energy consumption. This involved orchestrating a programme that replaced obsolete lighting with LEDs including the use of PIRs in area where light is not needed all day. Furthermore, M The Galleries was recognised for its continued commitment to excellent levels of health and safety management by being awarded a RoSPA Gold Award.
Hannah Jones, LCP property manager for the Galleries and Weavers Wharf, commented: “Alongside Weavers Wharf winning the Green Apple Award, probably the biggest achievement has been the change in mindset of all the tenants’ staff at the centre now recognising and understanding opportunities to reduce and recycle waste. We congratulate Weavers Wharf for both the award win and for achieving its waste and recycling objectives.”
Simon Eatough, LCP director for landlord & tenant (Midlands), added: “To win awards across any of our schemes is fantastic, but even more so when it supports our environmental objectives, so we would like to thank everyone involved at M The Galleries for their continued efforts.”
