Yorkshire outlet destination, Junction 32, has achieved an 18.4% rise in footfall in the first half of 2024, accompanied by a 2.6% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, demonstrating strong consumer confidence and increased visitor engagement.
As retail spaces evolve into destinations beyond shopping transactions, Junction 32 has embraced the trend towards experiential shopping, transforming into a hub of community engagement and social interaction. This includes the Artisan Craft Fayre taking place once a month and an ongoing busker spot encouraging local performers, which has contributed to the uplift in footfall traffic over the last six months.
The outlet’s H1 success is also down to some great new store openings and upsizes with key retailers such as Greggs, Pavers, Sports Direct, Mountain Warehouse and Sofa.com. Additionally, the completion of a refit for Trespass further enhanced the shopping experience, attracting more visitors and driving sales.
Leading categories that performed best in H1 2024 include sports (+6.8%), outdoor (+15%), menswear (+17.5%), home (+15.7%) and cafes (+6.1%), reflecting evolving consumer preferences and the outlets ability to cater to diverse shopper needs.
Rachel Scott, head of leasing at Global Mutual said: “Junction 32’s outstanding performance is down to the centre’s effective strategies resulting in successful openings and expansions of key stores, along with the completion of significant refurbishments. The record turnover and substantial increase in footfall highlights the strong appeal of our brand offerings.”
