New, state-of-the-art neutral host networks have been fully launched at Westfield London and Westfield Stratford by the Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG). The 5G-enabled networks support all of the mobile operators (and all their technologies and frequencies) and extend to over 4.5 million square feet including over 600 retail, services and food and beverage outlets.
Westfield says it is committed to creating shopping destinations that provide unique platforms for retailers and brand events and offers exceptional and constantly renewed omnichannel experiences for shoppers.
WIG’s approach aims to ensure that customers at the Westfield centres can benefit from reliable network coverage and fast data connections during their visits.
Jacinta Rowsell, director of operations, URW UK said: “Today’s shoppers expect high-quality, seamless mobile coverage to support every stage of their retail experience. Robust connectivity is also integral to our occupiers’ operations, marketing and sales. WIG analysed our centres, understood our requirements and challenges, and has delivered solutions that enable world-class mobile services that not only support our existing needs, but also anticipate the dynamic and evolving requirements of our flagship tenants and their customers.”
Craig Birchenough, indoor networks COO at WIG, commented: “WIG’s experienced team has guided this project from design and construction through to engaging all of the mobile operators. WIG now delivers neutral host infrastructure to operational real estate with over 1.5 billion visitors a year including 75% of the UK’s 20 largest shopping malls.”
