Ikea could be about to buy Churchill Square shopping centre in Brighton. According to CoStar, the Swedish furniture giant has put in an offer of £175m.
In 2019, Ikea’s Ingka Centres division acquired the Kings Mall in Hammersmith and subsequently transformed it into a lively community destination called Livat Hammersmith. Ingka Centres said it aimed to provide the local community with additional spaces for relaxing and socialising; alongside other high street favourites and a ‘pay-by-the-hour’ adaptive retail space to give local start-ups, pop-ups and food outlets the opportunity to grow and flourish.
Churchill Square came on the market earlier year and CoStar reports that there has been competitive bidding at around the £175m mark.
The 520,000sq ft space is currently home to retailers including Apple, Foot Locker, H&M, JD Sports, Next, Victoria’s Secret and Zara.
