North East shopping destination Eldon Square has extended its trading hours on the back of increased visitor numbers and consumer demand. As of now, the centre is opening for one extra hour per day to support the interest in the city centre shopping, dining and leisure hub.
As such, the Newcastle centre is open 9am-7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with late-night trading on Thursday from 9am-8pm. On Sundays it is open from 11am-5pm.
This announcement comes on the back of news that retail unit occupancy levels have returned to pre-pandemic levels and in-centre brand diversity is at an all-time high, bolstered by the attraction of several new global retail giants such as Mango, Victoria’s Secret and Swatch. In addition to this, Eldon Square has also seen visitor levels increase quarter-on-quarter for the past two years, with footfall in the centre up 42.9% vs 2021.
The news comes at an important time for the business, with the centre broadening its offering of not only retail stores but also dining and leisure activities. The additional one hour of trading will give those that work later or have day-time commitments the opportunity to experience the centre, do some last-minute shopping or grab a coffee or bite to eat with friends, without having to rush.
Cormac Hamilton, general manager at Eldon Square, said: “With the centre offering a greater selection of global brands than ever before as well as a variety of leading local independents, we are sure that Eldon Square will grow and develop as the vibrant social hub that our customers and retailers have grown to love. We have many exciting plans for 2023 and extending our trading hours will only support in delivering them”.
