Peel announces £5m investment plans for Washington retail park
Peel Land and Property is building on the arrival of a Lidl supermarket at Washington retail park, Peel Land and Property to push for a full revamp of the Sunderland Highway site. Lidl will join existing retailers existing retailers at Washington Retail Park including B&M Bargains, JD Gyms, Franks Carpets and McDonalds. The new supermarket and refurbished park will open in Summer 2019.
More than £5m is being invested in the redevelopment and refurbishment of the existing retail park with planning permission granted for three refurbished units and an additional 46,600 sq ft of retail warehouse development, in addition to the new Lidl supermarket. This includes an additional food retail unit, a non-food retail unit plus a unit with consent for use as a coffee shop or sandwich shop.
Peel’s investment in the retail park will include new cladding on existing units, new signage, glazing and store entrances, plus a full redesign of the car park with new landscaping to complete the scheme.
